Janette Porter, daughter of the late Mary Louise Porter and Sandy Porter was born December 16, 1951 in Florence, South Carolina. She was preceded in death by five sisters, Clara Bell Porter, Edna Singletary, Georgeanna Porter Brayboy, Linda Porter and Willie Mae Johnson and one brother, Alexander Porter.
“Net”, as she was affectionately called attended the public schools of Florence County.
She attended St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church, Workman Community, Kingstree, South Carolina.
She was well known in the community as a mother to many. She was loving, caring, funny and loved her family. She was a hard worker and took care of the elderly for many years.
She was joined in holy matrimony to Ben Wesley Brand for forty-three years.
On Tuesday, September 14, 2021, Janette Porter answered her Master’s call at her residence in Turbeville, South Carolina.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her husband, Ben W. Brand; eight loving and devoted children: Melissa (Tony) State of Turbeville, SC, Tami (James) Pinesette of New Zion, SC, Moses (Cynthia) Porter of Cincinnati, OH, Alexander Porter of Turberville, SC; Linda Porter of Sumter, SC, James (Charlene) Porter of Lake City, SC, Marvin (Maria) Porter of Shallop, NC and Ben (Nashanda) Porter of New Zion, SC; twenty-three grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; two brothers, her twin, James Edward Porter and John Harvey Porter both of Lake City, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Graveside services were be held 11:00AM Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at the McKenzie-Brown Cemetery, Salem Road, Lake City, SC.
The family received friends at the home of her daughter and son-in-law Melissa and Tony State, 1012 Mickey St., Turbeville SC.
