Obituary For Richard "Hubert" Blaylock

Mr. Richard H. Blaylock, 72, formerly of Decatur, GA entered into eternal rest on Thursday, September 16, 2021.

A public visitation with the family will be held on Sunday, September 26, 2021; at the Clubhouse in Silver Summit At Flat Shoals Subdivision in Conyers, GA. The visitation will commence at 2:00pm and conclude at 4:00pm.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 10:00am in Radium Springs Garden located at 2501 Radium Springs Road, Albany, GA 31705.

Richard Hubert Blaylock was born October 1, 1948 in Albany, Dougherty County, GA. He was the son of the late Richard Blaylock of Albany and Lillian Brown Blaylock of Wrens, GA. Hubert was christened and raised in Bethel AME Church where he was an active participant in the Sunday school, Junior Choir and Junior Church.

Hubert attended the public schools of Albany, Hazard Laboratory Kindergarten and Elementary, Carver Jr. High, and Monroe Sr. High where he was an outstanding football player and athlete. He graduated with honors from Monroe in 1966. Immediately after high school Hubert joined the Air Force and started married life with his first wife Girdine Caldwell. To this union was born his sons Richard Hubert, II and Mario Francois DeRosier (Dee Dee). Hubert served four years in the Air Force and did at least two tours of duty in Vietnam.

After leaving the Air Force he applied for admission to and was accepted in air traffic controller school in Oklahoma. Upon completion of school he worked as a controller at the Hampton Center in Hampton, GA. for 20+ years until his retirement. During this time he met and married Carla Pete and fathered three more sons, Nicholas Nathan, Matthew Richard, and Andrew Joseph.

Later in life he married Cheryl Boutte who preceded him in death in 2014.

His greatest joy was spending time with his "boys" , as he loved to say, and traveling all over the metro area to see them play high school football. Hubert was a very humble and caring person who always shied away from attention.

He will be tremendously missed by his family and friends.

Hubert is survived by his 93 yr. old mother Lillian Blaylock of Conyers, GA; two aunts: Rosalyn Fuller of Cincinnati ,Ohio, and Evelyn Lewis of Virginia Beach, VA; one uncle, Terry Brown of Hepzibah, GA; his sister, Cynthia Blaylock, of Conyers, GA; his five sons: Richard Hubert (Hapreet), Mario Francois (Michelle), Nicholas Nathan (Diana), Matthew Richard, and Andrew Joseph; and seven grandchildren: Daisha, Rachael, Mario II, Morgan, Tyler, Zoya, and Kaiden; three great grands, and lots of cousins too numerous to mention in both parents families.

Bernard's Family Funeral Care "The Madison Chapel" is honored to serve the Blaylock family during their time of bereavement.

Richard was my first trainer at ZTL. He took a "dumb redneck hippie" (his words) and turned me into a journeyman controller. We had many talks about growing up in the south during the 50's and 60's and how it made us who we were. I will always remember his laugh and how to have fun while still doing a good job. See you in heaven Blalock. Perry Carswell
