Obituary For Harold V. Berry

Mr. Harold V. Berry passed away Thursday September 16, 2021.

Harold Vincent Berry was born May 22, 1965 in Youngstown, Ohio to Harold and Alice Berry. Harold was known as ‘Vince’ to his family and ‘HB’ to his close friends. Harold attended Jefferson Elementary School, Hayes Middle School and Rayen High School. Harold played football, threw shot put and was a notable little league and high school baseball player, known for his pitching and hitting skills.

He attended New Bethel Baptist Church in Youngstown, Ohio. Harold moved to NC in the late ‘80s after a year of attending Teen Challenge.

He started as a barber and became a hair stylist and salon owner for almost a decade. He worked as a stylist in other salons throughout his career including Leon's, Castle of Styles, BlackBerry Salon Studio (which Harold and Carolyn owned), Master Minds and Industry 21. Harold attended classes at local community colleges and taught styling classes at beauty schools. He received his Cosmetology License from Leon’s Beauty School in 1992.

Harold met Carolyn Cannon in the early ‘90s and they married in 1995. Harold and Carolyn would later have their son Myles Vincent in April of 2000.

Harold attended several churches over the years including Evangel Fellowship of God, Word of Life Tabernacle, Destiny Christian Center and Mount Zion Baptist Church in Greensboro. He attended City Council and school board meetings, coached track and basketball and supported local youth. His hobbies included listening to jazz and gospel, taking care of his cars, being a responsible businessman and his favorite hobby above all was being ever present in his son Myles’ life.

Rest In Peace, dear Harold. I will never forget your kindness and excellent service during my brief stay in GSO. And your honesty. When I asked you to help make sense of my sew-in by another stylist, you flat out told me that you did not work with weaves! I was like, 'Okay, do what you can, please.' And of course you did. Thank you. Bonnie N. Davis

Carolyn and Miles, Harold shared a video with me that Miles took of him during one of their trips to the juice shop. He had no idea that Miles had taken it and fathers day Miles shared it with him. Harold was so proud that Miles took the video of their trip. 🤗🙏

My dear Carolyn and Myles! Words will never express how much your husband and father will be missed! H.B., as I affectionately called him, was more than a friend, fellow church member, prayer partner (as part of The Secret Place Prayer Ministry) and hair colorist/stylist to me. H.B. was my brother and the one person I could count on to share encouragement while helping me to see the view point of others in the process. He did that while actively listening to my story without judgment. It was never a time that I visited the salon where he worked-- and I followed him to his last 3-- that I left feeling or looking the same as I did when I walked in the door. No! Harold's craft was also his ministry. We spent the time in his chair mulling over scriptures, talking about our pastor's most recent message, about Myles' successes, and just about any and everything that was God and good! The Secret Place Prayer Ministry, of which Harold was a fellow-intercessor, remained prayerful that Harold would come out the hospital totally and completely healed with new and improved everything. Though he is no longer on this side of heaven, Harold did leave the hospital just like that-- totally and completely healed, with all things new. H.B. is now in the presence of the LORD with a smile bigger than ever getting answers to his plenteous, "I wonder if" questions. Yes, we will miss his unique and insightful way of interpreting scripture, encouragement, and powerful intercession. Yet, we are confident that God allowed us our season with a phenomenal gentleman whose indelible impression will outlive all of us. Thank you Carolyn and Myles for sharing your loved one with us all! We will continue to pray for you as you go through the process of healing from this unexpected loss. I love you to life and will be there for you when you need me! ~Simply Val aka Valerie Jones-Robinson :-)
