Mary Thames King, daughter of the late Henry Thames and Mary Chatman Thames was born February 25, 1929 in Manning, South Carolina. She was preceded in death by twelve siblings and a special friend for over thirty years, Rivvie McKenzie.

Mary, as she was affectionately called, “Oleta” and “Tooty Fruity” was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County. At a young age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and joined Mt. Zero Missionary Baptist Church.

In her youth, she worked at a clothing factory and as a housekeeper. She enjoyed sewing and knitting in her spare time. She had gifted hands from which exquisite ceramics and floral arrangement were made.

She was married to the late Ervin King.

On Wednesday, September 22, 2021, after a long abundant life filled with love, Mary Thames King, departed this earthly realm at McLeod Health Clarendon in Manning, South Carolina.

She is survived by her twin sister, Annie Black of Denmark, SC; a goddaughter, Sallie Chatman Burns of Atlanta, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the family is not receiving visitors.
