Melvin joined Cross Roads at an early age. There he served all his life, for many years in whatever capacity he was called to do. He loved his church and church family. Melvin loved his family with all his heart and worked hard to make sure they had what they needed. He worked at Carpenter Brothers Tire; Griffin Motors; West Tire; and the ABC Store in Monroe, North Carolina until his retirement.
Melvin was a true entrepreneur before it became popular. He did a little of everything. He owned Wingate Car Wash; Piney Grove Grocery Store; The Grill in Marshville; Limousine Service Business; and others.
He was preceded in death by his wife Loretta and three children: James Huntley, Deidre Huntley Boyd and Stephen Carl Huntley. Three brothers: Joe Lee Huntley, Robert Huntley and Cecil Huntley. Three sisters: Dorothy Huntley, Shirley H. Scales and Jacqueline H. Bennett.
Melvin leaves to cherish his memories, two sons, Tony M. Huntley of the home and Charlie M. Huntley, Jr, (Claudia) of China Grove, NC; one daughter, Demetria Huntley of Wingate, NC; One daughter-in-law, Gail Huntley of Marshville, NC; eleven grandchildren: Lorenzo Huntley (Jessica), Stephen Huntley, Jr. (Paris), Marquis Huntley, Rasheta Sledd (Carrie), Deshaun McClendon (Brandon), Joshua Coffey, KaMel Huntley, Trey Huntley, Quincy Huntley, Malik Huntley and Kuanzeek Garmon. Eight great-grands. One brother: Terry Allen. Five sisters: Mae McFadden (Willie); Glenda Williams (Tony); Minister Phyllis Deese (Phillip); Edith Hailey (Robert); and Dwella Huntley. Six sisters-in-law: Lillie Huntley, Minister Lillie Ingram, Peggy Welch, Mildreth Bowman, Letha Ingram, and Deloris Ingram. Four brothers-in-law: Robert Ingram (Margie), Archie Hamilton, Lanzy Hamilton (Catherine) and Robin Lockhart (Pastor Sharon). Two aunts; Joyce Wilson (Aaron) and Carolyn Thomas. One uncle: Carroll Thomas.
A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The Homegoing Services were held on Monday, September 27, 2021, 1:00pm, Smith's Memorial Chapel, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina. Interment followed in the the family plot of Crossroads AME Zion Church Cemetery, Marshville, North Carolina.
