OBITUARY:

Edna Mae Newton affectionately known as "Ade" was born July 2, 1940 in Tchula, MS to the late Laney Bankhead, Sr. and the late Christine Smart-Bankhead.

Edna had six siblings. Two sisters; Wardine Brown and Estella Cage, four brothers; Tommy Lee Bankhead, Clarence Bankhead, Laney Bankhead, Jr. and Willie Bankhead whom all preceded her in death.

Edna grew up in the Quofaloma community, Tchula, MS. She attended Mileston School, where she later became a well respected and loved employee. She retired in 1999.

Edna accepted Christ at Quofaloma M. B. Church under the leadership of Rev. A.A. Buckner. She served on the mother board and was a prominent member of the choir. Her love for singing later developed into as singing group called "The Gospel Traveler's"

Edna united in holy matrimony to John Wesley, Sr. of Tchula, MS; who preceded her death. To this union was born nine children; Linda Medley of Galesburg, IL; Barbara Shatcher, Palentine, IL; Hattie Newton, Milwaukee,WS; Patricia Harvey, Tchula, MS; Joann Banks(Joe Drake)Tchula, MS; Debra Jamison(Ocie)Peoria,IL; Cynthia Newton(James Burns) Tchula, MS; Tunja March(Roosevelt) Lexington, MS; and John Newton, Jr., Itta Bena, MS.

Edna has thirty five grandchildren; seventy-five great grandchildren; special nephews, Tommy(Sonny)Paige, Laney Bankhead, Jr., Robert Bankhead, Floyd Bankhead and Tyrone Bankhead, Sr.

Edna has host of nieces, nephews, a lot of friends and special friends whom she loved dearly and called sisters, brothers and children. Rosezene Anderson, Bernice Wilson, Alfredia Calahan, Robert Shaffer and Dorothy Brookes. Six-In-Laws, Mary (Willie) Mayze, Susie Newton, Mary Sanders, Ruby Bankhead, Joseph Newton Jr., and Solomon Newton.

I don't know what to say to make the family feel better, I'm sorry for the lost of a wonderful woman of God, to the Newton Family you all are in my thoughts and prayers. Mrs. Newton was such a wonderful woman of God, so selfless, full of positivity, kindness and a heart of love. God has gained an ANGEL.
