Jean Freeman Barnes Peters

Mrs. Jean Barnes Peters passed away peacefully on September, 26. 2021. at Regional Memorial hospital. Mrs. Peters graduated from Armstrong High School in 1940, where she was crowned Miss Armstrong. She married Joseph Barnes and from this union they had 2 sons, Joseph and Kelvin. They both live in Richmond, Virginia.

After many years of marriage Mr. Barnes passed away. Mrs. Barnes moved to Charleston, WV and after a period of time she met and married Mr. Joseph Peters. She was a graduate of West Virginia State. Mrs. Peters was one of 22 students to earn a fellowship to Purdue University with Dr. Claude Perkins who was the former President at Virginia Union University. Mrs. Peters also worked in the Richmond Public School system as one of the first black Curriculum Specialist and was principal at Mary Munford Elementary for several years. Mrs. Peters believed in living your best life, accepting your journey and moving forward with God's grace. She will be sorely missed by family and friends.
