Obituary For Mrs. Bernice Gay

Bernice Grimes Gay affectionately called “Bunny”, by close friends, Aunt Bunny by family, or Grandma Bun Bun was born in Webster County, Georgia on September 12, 1940. She was one of six children born to the late Robert Lee and Bertha Grimes. At an early age, her family moved to Americus, Georgia where she was educated in the schools of Sumpter County. She graduated with honors and was Salutatorian of her class which made her family extremely proud.

She attended the House of God Church in Americus, Georgia under the leadership of Bishop Lovely Stakeley and was born again and received the baptism of the Holy Spirit at the age of eleven. After moving to Atlanta in 1959, she married her high school sweetheart, Alphonso Gay. To this union two beautiful children were born, Tracey Lashon Gay and Terrance Antoine Gay, Sr. In 1982, the Lord blessed her to find the Assemblies of God Church in the yellow pages in Decatur, Georgia. She later joined the church, and that has been her church since. While there, she served in several church ministries; the children’s nursery, taught Sunday school and sang in the choir for twenty-three years. She had a passionate love for her Church, her Pastors and members. Bernice was called into the presence of the Lord on April 9, 2018. She considered it a blessing to have a personal relationship with her Lord and Savior. She leaves to celebrate her life her two children, Tracey Lashon Gay Pugh and Terrance Antoine (Jennifer Towler) Gay, Sr. her former spouse, Alphonso (Mamie) Gay; She also leaves one precious grandson, Terrance Antoine Gay, Jr. (His mother, Ameerah Hill); several nieces, nephews, sister-in-law, General Elder Carrie Grimes, cousin/sister, Lue Ethel Hardnett, god-son, Chauncey Evans, step granddaughter, Toshonna Towler and friends.
