Obituary For Sister Delores Addison

Sister Delores Addison was born in Howell, GA to the late Major and Geraldine Addison on August 18, 1938. She departed this life on Friday, October 1, 2021, at South Georgia Medical Center.

Delores at the age of twelve joined and was baptized at Morning Star Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend Johnson.  She served as a member of the youth and adult choir, BTU, and Sunday School.  When she was a teen she moved to Brooklyn, NY.  She graduated from Girls High School and furthered her education at Brooklyn University College, Manhattan Bible School, and at Rame where she received her teachers’ certificate.

Delores joined the First Born Church of the Living God in Brooklyn, NY where she continued her spiritual growth. She served as a Sunday School teacher, Youth President, Church Missionary, President of The Solid Rock Scholarship, District of NY and NJ Field Worker, Assistant District Evangelist, District Secretary, Program Coordinator, and President of the National Day of Prayer in the Brooklyn District.  She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Essex Chapter #27 in Brooklyn, NY.

Delores returned to Valdosta after retiring from the Federal Government Service in January 2000 and embraced the changes.  She rededicated her membership to Morning Star Baptist Church under the leadership of Revered William C. Morgan.  She was the first member to join in the 21st century.  She continued her spiritual work, served as a missionary with Circle #3, BTU, Sunday School, and a member of the Community Prayer Group.  She also served as a volunteer at South Georgia Medical Center as a pink lady, volunteered at Action Program “Faith Light,” and was President of the Carrie Mae Lissimore Scholarship Fund.

Second cousins Evangelist Kyle Vincent (Barbara) Lee - Valdosta, GA, Dorthula (Lamont) Tillery - Auburndale, FL, and a host of other beloved cousins.

Delores was the godmother to many which include Dr. Sible Anderson, Jamelia Boyd, Kim Anderson, Gerald Cox, Horacio Boyd, Jeffery Anderson, Gregory Anderson, and Bishop Gene, all from New York, NY.   

She was also a foster mother of eleven children.  Some of them are Kerrie Spencer, Shatisa Lyles, Carlett Anthony, Winnie Anthony, and Jerome Spincer.

Delores had many devoted spiritual friends and neighbors who showered her with love and kindness over the years.  Her spiritual friends included Hazel Hall, Eva and Ted Anderson and members of the Morning Star Baptist Church.  Her beloved neighbors the Crossgrow’s and Gordon’s.

However long the journey and however long the path, it is always too soon to say goodbye. 

Home Going Service for Sister Delores Addison will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 11:00 A. M. at Morning Star Baptist Church with Rev. Hooker officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion A. M. E. Church Cemetery. If you are unable to attend the service, please join us live on scottandrobertsmortuary.com to witness the home going service of Sister Addison. There will be temperature checks and masks required. Public viewing will be held on Saturday at Morning Star from 10:00 A. M. until time of the service. Blessing from the Mortuary that Cares
