Nannie Dalton Martin, 84, of Walnut- Cove, NC died October 10, 2021. A public viewing will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, October 14, 2021, at Perry- Spencer Funeral Home, Madison, NC. The Graveside service will begin at 12:00 p.m. Friday, October 15, 2021, at the Withers Chapel Cemetery, Walnut Cove, NC.

On Sunday, October 10, 2021, Mrs. Nannie Dalton Martin answered to the call of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to the mansion prepared for her before the foundation of the world by an all wise and loving God. She transitioned peacefully with her children, grandchildren, and family members close by her side. She was born in Stoneville, NC on April 16, 1937, to the late John William and Ollie Belle Martin Dalton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Elvin Delano Martin Sr., one son, Elvin Delano Martin Jr: 2 brothers, Hunter Lee Odell Dalton, and Leonard Wade Dalton; 3 sisters in law, Roberta Dalton, Margaret Dalton, and Doris Withers; 4 brothers in law, Elder Leon Gravely, Rufus Hayes, Tameridge Martin, and Kenneth Martin; her mother and father-in-law, Hunter and Lonia A. Martin, and one honorary grandson, John Matt Mitchell.

Nannie was educated in the Rockingham County Public School System. She married Elvin Delano Martin Sr. on November 24, 1956. To this union, nine children were born. She professed a hope in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ at an early age. She joined the Davis Baptist Church and later became a member of the Withers Chapel Church, where she attended as long as her health allowed her to do so. She was the lead singer of the Gospel Harmonettes for over 50 years. She also sang in the Adult/Senior Choir at the Withers Chapel Church. She was also Church Treasurer for many years. The Lord blessed her with a singing spirit, and she loved to sing and praise the Lord. Nannie was a pure example of a virtuous woman. She was blessed to live the life that she sang about in her songs. Her Christian life reflected what she believed in and what she stood for. She was blessed to illustrate her strong faith and trust in God on an everyday basis.

She was a beautiful, kind and loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to all who knew and loved her. She was honored, loved, and respected by her family, church family, and many friends. She had a gentle spirit and she distributed love to everyone and everywhere that she went.

She was employed by the Washington Mill Company in Mayodan for over 15 years. She was a cook at the Hillbilly Hideaway Restaurant in Walnut Cove, NC for many years. She was also an in-home care attendant for John Matt Mitchell for 17 years. She also loved working with her flowers and plants.

She leaves to cherish her memory; 5 daughters; Teresa Joan Martin and Debbie Lynn Martin of Winston Salem, NC; Missionary Amy Lowe (Terrill) of Eden, NC, Lavita Gwynette Martin and Nechelle Martin of the home, 3 sons: Michael Mauchan Martin (Machell)of Belews Creek, NC, Dwayne Arness Martin of Madison, NC and Daryl Wade Martin (Angela)of Charleston, SC; one brother, Harold William Dalton (Doris) of Union Hall, VA; 3 sisters; Christeen Gravely of Martinsville, VA, Shirley Hayes of Stoneville, NC, and Faye Staten (Barry) of Browns Summit, NC. one sister-in-law, Virginia Lee Smith.: 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, the Mitchell family, special friends, Carolyn Martin, Gwendolyn Mitchell, and a host of special nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
