Obituary For Mr. Cleophis "Boy" McCurdy

Celebration of life services for Mr. Cleophis "Boy" McCurdy, age 80, of Gadsden, Al. will be held at 1p.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Abundant Life Church with Bishop Terry A. Jones, Officiating. Interment will follow in Lincoln Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 4, 2018 at the funeral home from 6-8p.m.

Cleophis McCurdy, Affectionately known as “ Boy” was born the 3rd child of Arthur and Ida Mae McCurdy on May 26, 1937 in Camphill, Alabama. He received his formal education from the Tallapoosa County School System. At the tender age of 23, Cleophis met and married Jessie Mae Griffin on June 11, 1960 and to this union seven were born.

Shortly after starting a family, Boy knew that he wanted to provide a better life for his family so stepping out on faith he moved the family from Camphill to Gadsden, Al. After arriving he gained employment with the Gadsden Water Works where he worked his way up from a laborer to Superintendent. He was employed with the Water works for over forty years until he retired in 2007 to become the fulltime caretaker of his wife Jessie.

Though “Boy” was a private man, he was a caring and loving man who enjoyed fishing, grilling, and watching the Atlanta Braves and Auburn Football. He also loved spending time with family.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Jessie Mae McCurdy. One daughter, Loretta Pink. Two Brothers, L.C. McCurdy and “ Preacher” McCurdy. Two sisters, Jean McCurdy and Viola McCurdy.

He leaves to cherish his many memories, his loving and devoted Children: Earma J. McCurdy, Sarah ( Robert) Martin, Larry Charles ( Donna) McCurdy, Linda M.( Mathew) Best, Barbara A. McCurdy, Cassandra ( Vincent)Turner, Javetta N. McCurdy, all of Gadsden, Al; Seressa Trammell and Anthony Trammell of Gadsden, AL; Sisters, Mae Rose Drake and Doris (John) Harris; Brother-in-law, James F. Griffin and Howard(Ruth) Griffin; Sister-in-law, Bernice G. McCrary; Grandchildren: Sabrina, Marcus, Marquette, Jessica, Terrell, Maurice, Torrance, Chatasia, Justin, Brandon, Kordell, Dajah, Derrien, Deshawnta, De’Quanta, Mondeja, Tadra, Jennifer and Blake. He leaves Twenty-two Great Grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
