Philip Alvin King

Passed 10/19/2021

Manning, SC

On December 29, 1950, Philip “Phil” Alvin King drew his first breath at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning, South Carolina. He was a beautiful, baby boy born to the late Raleigh and Lou Ida King. As one of four children, Phil was the quiet brother who spoke with his silence and had a steady, easy smile. As a young man he loved the beauty of nature and working with his hands. He grew strong, honing his skills as a mechanic, fixing everything from cars to small equipment. In 1969, he graduated from Manning Training School and attended Sumter Tech, concentrating on math and blueprints. Phil worked hard as an inspector for Air Caps, manufacturing lawn mowers. He also worked for several years as an inspector at Gold Kist Inc.

Phil was the father of four children, two boys and two girls. He was formerly married to Carolyn Gamble (King). Phil will be fondly remembered for his many talents. He was known throughout the family as the resident catfish stew chef and for frying the best fish this side of Bloomville Road. And he was also known as a precise and talented house painter. Phil enjoyed fishing, communing with friends and spending time with his family.

With great sorrow, on Tuesday, October 18, 2021, Philip Alvin King drew his last breath and entered into eternal rest at Prisma Health in Columbia, South Carolina surrounded by his loving family.

Loved ones left to cherish his memory are: his children: Kimberly Blackwell of Connecticut, Cynthia Akins (Quintin) of Columbia, SC, Philip Alvin King, II (Rita) of Savannah, GA, and Ronald King (Tamara) of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Brittany Dewitt, Nicholas Livingston, Chasity King, Alani King, Quintin Akins, II, Joshua Akins, Mikayla Lane, Philip Alvin King, III, Destiny Blackwell, Rashaan Blackwell, Iyesha Blackwell and Madison King; great-grandchildren, Aria Blackwell, Avion Blackwell and Damien Blackwell; former wife, Carolyn G.
