DEACON ALVIN EUGENE BASKERVILLE took up residence in his new heavenly mansion on October 14, 2021 in Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, VA. He was the son of the late Deacon Edward Hamilton Baskerville and Sally Marie Bugg Baskerville, born on September 25, 1953. Two of his brothers preceded him in death- Larry and Wayne Baskerville.

His Christian education began at home; he attended Gethsemane Baptist Church. He was saved and baptized at an early age.

He was a graduate of Park View Senior High School, where he played on the basketball team. He later enrolled in classes at Southside Community College and Virginia State University.

Alvin joined Metropolitan Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Nelson Bland, Jr. He was later ordained a Deacon by Reverend Lamont Hobbs and he also sang with the Men’s Chorus.

Throughout his journey of life he was employed at several jobs which included USCO Trailer Manufacturing Company, Pepsi Cola Company, Winn-Dixie, Brown and Williamson, Virginia Electric and Power Company and Phillip Morris/Park 500. He retired from Phillip Morris/Park 500 after forty years of service.

Alvin met the love of his life Bertha Mae Brown at Winn-Dixie and they enjoyed forty-seven years of marital bliss.

His hobbies were basketball, collecting watches, attending antique and vintage car shows, tinkling around in the garage, washing his cars, cutting grass, and vacationing with family. Most of all he adored wearing suits and was often called “Mr. G. Q.”

Alvin leaves to cherish his precious memories a devoted wife- Bertha Brown Baskerville of the home; two children- Michael Eugene Baskerville of Petersburg, VA and Monica Ann (Kenderick, Sr.) Stith of South Chesterfield, VA; two grandchildren- Kenderick Montez Stith, Jr. “KJ” and Maliyah Monica Ann Stith; brother- Reverend Edward L. (Jerlene) Baskerville of Newport News, VA; three sisters- Lucy Mae (Jerry) Cunningham of Newport News, VA; Eva Jean Fant of Portsmouth, VA and Shirley Marie Ann Goodman of Henrico, VA; three sisters-in-law, Emily Wilson, Shirley Penn and Teresa Brown; seven brothers-in-law, Fred (Liz) Brown, Sr., Calvin (Clintolin) Brown, Nicholas Sheer; James Evans, Larry (Dee) Brown, Shawn Harris, and Stevie (Bridgette) Brown; two uncles- William S. Ice and Aaron Walker, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Romans 10:9
