Remembering Demetrius Reneus Newkirk Jr. January 31, 1989 -- October 31, 2021 On January 31, 1989, Angela Saulberry- Newkirk and Demetrius R. Newkirk Sr. welcomed home their first son Demetrius Reneus Newkirk Jr. in Pahokee Florida. Whom they affectionately referred to as “Metruis” by family members and close friends. At a young age Metrius accepted Christ as his savior when he was Baptized and became a member at Mt. Mariah Baptist Church under Reverend Biggs of Pahokee, Florida. He was educated through the school District of Palm Beach County where he was a member of Pahokee Middle – Senior High School Class of 2007. From his parents Angie and Dee- Dee he learned to be a hard worker, a leader, and a jokester. Both parents instilled love, respect, and the importance of unity into Demetrius R. Newkirk Jr. He always carried a loving smile and a unique laugh to match. Demetrius childhood journey originated in Padgett Island where he started out playing marbles, volleyball, and football in the neighborhood. The family moved to Cypress Avenue, and he encountered more friends and developed a hobby for ATV Sports. Demetrius encountered a passion for a traditional sport that originated in the Glades “Rabbit Hunting”, which was inspired by his Uncle James. He had a love of football and admired the Florida Gators of Gainesville and the New York Giants. Metrius was an active “Gamer” and collector of Play Station Systems. But mostly he enjoyed joking around with family and friends. As he begins to grow on his journey, Metrius obtained and secured his employment with the Thalle Construction Company, A Tully Group Company. He worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator. At work he will be remembered as the go-to person very dependable and always willing to get the job done. Demetrius R. Newkirk Jr. will be remembered by his loved ones as a humbled, loving, and kind- hearted father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, grandson, and friend. Demetrius R. Newkirk leaves his loving parents to cherish his memory: Angela C. Saulsberry- Newkirk and Demetrius R. Newkirk Sr. (Tomytea); He is survived by his children Demetrius R. Newkirk III and DeJavian Reshaud Newkirk; Siblings: Devarious Newkirk Sr., De’Kayla Newkirk, Devante Newkirk, De’Angela Newkirk, De’Ashley Newkirk, Demetria Newkirk, Delana Turner ( Edward), Skylar Newkirk, Raleigh Newkirk and Caleb Seymore (Stepbrother) ;Grand Parents: Rosetta and James Saulsberry Sr., Lola Blackman and; Aunts: Twalla Whitlock ( Leroy), Shilette Newkirk, Shiquanta Newkirk, Shineaka Newkirk, and Shirelle Pinkney ( Anthony); Uncles: James Saulberry Jr., Octavian Prince, Darrell Newkirk, Drexel Newkirk; Nephews: Kasion Toribio, Devarious Newkirk Jr., Trenton Newkirk, and Edward Turner; Devoted Neices: Princiahna Newkirk, E’nyius Turner, Teaurri Smith, E’lani Turner, De’Shanunti Newkirk, and Kristina Newkirk ;Great Aunts: Sarah Edwards, Bernice Bell, Donna Bell, Clora Bell, Gloria Shirley, and Yvonne Smith; Great Uncle: Willie Bell (Cora). He built a special bond with his cousins: Kandice Pryce, La’Feria Saulberry, Jacquetta Shazier, JD Shazier, Jamal Shazier, Ken’ Jarvis Peterkin, Dennis Peterkin Jr., Lajarvis Pittman, Brandon Bell Jr, Latori Morgan, Matoria Morales, Dexter Dukes, Kareem Williams , Jybray Barber, Jartarus Walker, Kenneth Peterkin Jr. Otis Harvey III and Isaiah Pugh. Godmother Veronica Bellamy and Godsister Eriel Roberts Metrius also shared a lifetime of memories with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends ; Dearest Friends: Tyrone Campbell, Alonzo Simmons, Justin Jenkins, Jarvoris Lee, Horatio Reeves, Jamarkis Bouie, Gregory Hylton & the others Ave St. Boyz.
