Obituary For Virginia Turner

Mrs. Virginia Gibson Turner was born on January 8, 1948, in Pinehurst, NC to the late John and Clara Q. Gibson. Her family moved to Hamlet, NC where she lived a portion of her childhood. They eventually relocated to Greensboro, NC. She remained there until the Lord called her home on the morning of October 26, 2021.

Virginia was a graduate of James B. Dudley High School Class of ’66. She was married to the late Marven Turner, Sr. Virginia worked at Cone Mills White Oak Plant for over 12 years. Her career changed when she gained employment with Exclusively Weddings, remaining there until retirement. Afterwards to keep busy, Virginia worked part time for Greenhouse Fabrics and eventually became a caregiver.

As an activist, Virginia participated in several local protest starting in the 1970’s. She believed in equality and stood up for the people’s rights. Virginia enjoyed family fellowship and entertaining. She was vastly known for cooking, especially her “peach cobbler” and “pound cake.”

Virginia was a loving and devoted Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Cousin and Friend. Her unforgettable presence and laughter will be greatly missed.

She is preceded in her death by her sisters: Lillie R. Kearns and Janice Gibson.

Her memorable life will continue through her 6 children, 18 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 11 brothers and sisters, cousins, and cherished friends.

Viewing will be on Thursday, November 4, 2021, from 4pm until 6pm in the Cassie Coote-Brown Memorial Chapel at Perry J. Brown Funeral Home,909 E Market St., Greensboro, NC 27401. A Celebration of her life will be Friday November 5, 2021 in the Cassie Coote-Brown Memorial Chapel at Perry J. Brown Funeral Home, 909 E Market St., Greensboro, NC 27401. Visitation is at 12:30 pm. and the service will begin at 1 pm.

Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

I worked with Virginia at Exclusively Weddings for many years. I am so sorry to hear of her passing and of the loss her family is experiencing.
