Goethe will be sorely missed. One of the highlights of my life was stopping by Catering by George on the days when I'd find myself on that side of town. It was especially gratifying when 'Mrs. George' was there.... I'll never forget how we laughed...All was right with the world at that moment, in the microcosm we shared. It is with a very heavy heart that I bid you Rest In Peace and Power, George. I am thankful our paths crossed on the 'yellow brick road'. My sincere condolences to the family, and to the community at large, as we are ALL Heartbroken, and still trying to accept this devastating news. I found out this afternoon, when I stopped by to get my ribs and sides. What a hard-working, personable, respectful, and kind man. Originally from NJ, I discovered his delicious food later than most, but I tried to make up for lost time, with regular visits. A valued pillar of our community has left us. Let us honor his legacy, by showing each other love, and supporting black/family-owned businesses that make a difference. God Bless Us All❣️

Dear Family, Friends, The JHS Class of '72 and Highland Junior High Falcons, The passing of George Covington places a strain on our hearts but not on the strong ties that bind this unique community. George was a vital part of our lives from as early as elementary school until his passing. Our community was unique in the historic and social challenges we faced. Sports and citizenship played a significant role in the way we were able to meet and overcome these challenges. George participated in sports, and other clubs and activities that provided history-making strides for us. Thankfully, we grew and emerged as a force in Durham and beyond as we chose careers, raised families and contributed to the making of Durham; particularly Hayti. Catering by George provided a "touch stone" for all citizens to be well fed; not only with good food, but with a sweet and loving spirit for others. Beyond George's culinary and entrepreneurial skills was humanitarian nature as demonstrated by making the restaurant available for meetings and worship services. George was not a complainer. In fact, if you were not aware of his health concerns, you would never know the degree to which he battled dis-ease in his body. Even in this George was concerned about others and generously contributed to the campaigns for better living for others. Our friend and our brother is already missed for the abiding positive spirit he ushered into any space he occupied. Dear Family and Friend, may we be encouraged as George encouraged others. Peace and Blessings, Anita Scott Neville
