Obituary For Linda Griffin

Linda Maggie Griffin was born on April 17, 1937 in Dossville, Mississippi. She was the fifth of what would be 10 children-five boys and 5 girls-born to the loving union of Rev. John Wesley Griffin and Mrs. Eunice E. Battle Griffin.

Linda (Maggie) grew up in a loving family. Her parents taught her and her siblings to love each other and treat others with kindness. Her mother noticed there were enough girls and enough talent in the family to make a gospel singing group, naming them-of-course-The Griffin Sisters (plus one beloved neighbor, Nathaniel Smith)

Linda attended Rayford Elementary School, a two-room building where the school was in session September through March of the year. Despite the four mile walk and the cold weather, she was anxious to go to school and be with her friends. She completed her education at Conway High School in Leake County, Mississippi.

Her career path took her to John Gaston Hospital in Memphis, TN, where she took hands-on nursing classes. She continued at John Gaston until she was able to find better opportunities at DC General in Washington, DC.

Many loved ones and friends remember Linda as a caring and loving person. Thus, her career choice in nursing well suited her. Over 30 years she worked at DC General Hospital, where she gave over 100% to others. She was so well loved that she was on a first-name basis with many of the patients she encountered. They would even ask about her on her days off.

Family members also recall how much Linda enjoyed life. She worked hard to keep up a vegetable garden for many years. She was cheerful and always found ways to make other around her smile. She loved music and had a soft spot for Sam Cooke. Linda was a "second mother" to her siblings. She would also be the "glue" of the family-always keeping in touch, offering advice, nurturing others when they felt ill. She was always there for family and friends in need.

She also became a mother to Reginald Johnson and worked hard to raise him according to Christian principles. She taught him life skills and responsibilities; and shared the same yearning to be with family. She died in Columbus, MS on November 5, 2021, with her beloved son by her side.

Linda Maggie Griffin was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. John Wesley Griffin and Eunice Griffin; her brothers David Battle Griffin, Delmon Sarl T. Griffin, Bingham Griffin; and her sister Lillian Wardean Griffin.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory: her sisters, Helen Cross, Lillie Mae Griffin, and Carthenia Green (Frank); and her brothers, James Griffin and Mervin J.L. Griffin. She also leaves behind a beautiful garden of nieces, nephews, and friends.
