Obituary For Dorothy H. France

Dorothy France, 89, of Fieldale, VA, departed this life on Tuesday, November 10, 2021 at her residence. She was born in Henry County, VA on June 16, 1932 to the late Berkley A. Hairston and the late Georgia Starling Hairston.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas G. France; two sisters, Mariah Easley and Alice Catherine Craighead; and two brothers, Anthony Hairston and Herman Hairston.

Dorothy attended the Historical Rock Run Community School in Fieldale, VA, and later graduated from the Henry County Training School, Martinsville, VA. She was a member of New Bethel Christian Church (DOC), Fieldale, VA. She taught the young junior class for a number of years, for years she sang in various choirs, including the Junior Choir and Senior Choir. She also was a member of the Christian Women Fellowship Ministry.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory, one sister, Naomi Woods of Portsmouth, VA; three brothers, John W. Hairston of Martinsville, VA, Henry L. Hairston of Collinsville, VA, and Luke Hairston (Delia) of AlBroak, Panama; three special nieces/caregivers, Sandra Hairston and Georgia G. Hairston both of Fieldale, VA, and Jasmine Hairston of Collinsville, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 15, 2021 at 12 noon at New Bethel Christian Church (DOC), Fieldale, VA with Pastor Mable Finney, Eulogist. Burial will follow at the Berkley Hairston Cemetery, Fieldale, VA. A public viewing will be held on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. In accordance with the CDC, a face covering, and social distancing is required. All other times, the family will be receiving friends at the home of her niece, Georgia G. Hairston, 339 Way Cross Dr., Fieldale, VA.
