Obituary For Mother Alice Little Gardner

Mrs. Alice Little Gardner was born on June 11, 1928 in Cheraw, SC to the late Mr. Henry and Mrs. Mary McCoach Little. She departed this life on Friday, November 12, 2021 at Wadesboro Health and Rehabilitation.

Alice attended the Chesterfield County School System during her early years, before moving to New York City where she began working as a domestic worker. When she moved back to Anson County she was a childcare provider for many children in the surrounding towns. She had a deep love for the children in the community.

Mrs. Alice confessed Christ at an early age and upon moving back to Wadesboro, she joined the East Rock Ford Baptist Church where she remained a faithful member until her health declined. She was also a member of the choir and would always attend singing convention at various local churches. During Mrs. Alice’s free time, she enjoyed listening to gospel music, going to Flea Markets, and watching her favorite T.V. Shows.

She spent her recent years at Wadesboro Health and Rehabilitation. She would often hear various ministers preaching the Holy Word in the common area of the facility and she was sure to be patting her feet and waving her hand. Mrs. Alice would often speak of the early years of her granddaughter visiting for the summer and spending time canning fruits and vegetables. Snapping peas and picking mustard greens were a variety of chores that had to be done before the sun went down.

Mrs. Little was a joy to be around on any occasion. Spending time with her would have you wanting more conversation. She was known for her favorite quotes, “Not to say goodbye but ‘so long’ until the next time” and in times of trouble “Not to worry but ‘I’m going to put it in the Lord’s Hands.’”

She was joined in holy matrimony to Mr. Lloyd Gardner and to this union one child was born, Lloyd Gardner Jr. They both preceded her in death along with sisters, Frances Cannon and Mary Little also brothers, Nathaniel, Henry, and Mike Little.

Mrs. Alice leaves to cherish her memories one sister, Virginia Montgomery of Wadesboro, NC; one granddaughter, Eleva Howard whom she always called “Tee Tee” of Pass Christian, Mississippi; four great granddaughters, Monae, Dominique Jones (SungKwang), Deja, Chanel and great-great grandson, Edwin Cairo Murray. Surviving her also are a great number of nieces and nephews and a special niece, Sharon Parsons who was also her caretaker—she was certain to make sure her aunt was well and happy. A host of cousins and friends.
