Obituary For Hollis Wooten

Hollis Darwin Wooten passed peacefully from this life the morning of November 12, 2021.

A long-time resident of Farragut, Tennessee, Hollis was born the second oldest of the six children of Lawson and Lila Mae Wooten. He was acquainted with the church at an early age, serving as an altar boy in the Catholic Church with his brother.

A graduate of McReynolds high school, in South Pittsburg, Tennessee, Hollis fulfilled his parents' wish that he go to college by attending the University of Tennessee Chattanooga and graduating with a bachelor's of science degree in engineering. Possessing a passion for engineering, Hollis had distinguished professional career in electrical engineering, including positions with Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion Plant, Los Alamos Tech,, Westinghouse, and as a senior engineer at the U.S. Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory from 1987 until his retirement in 2005.

He was preceded in death by both his first wife, Elserean, (1976 until her death in 1997) and second wife, Hertistine (from 2000 until her death in 2017). He loved both of them dearly. "…I would not have been able to be successful without my spouses. They're the ones who helped me through the years. Most importantly, they were my friends."

He leaves behind a loving sister Louise,and brothers Iven & Roy; a host of devoted nieces and nephews other relatives and friends.

There will be a Mass Service at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 633 St. John Ct., Knoxville, TN 37934 on Saturday, November 20, 2021.

The final resting place will be held at Cumberland View Cemetery, Kimball, TN on Sunday, November 21, 2021 at at 1:00p.m.

Hollis was such a kind and supportive man. My husband and I knew him years ago (we also worked in Los Alamos/Oak Ridge). He was always there for his Church and fellow parishioners. Knoxville's loss, but Heaven has a new Saint!!!
