Obituary For Fannie Warr

Fannie Warr 87, of Memphis, Tn answered her Master's call on November 13, 2021.

Fannie Pearl Eddings Warr was born January 12, 1934, to Elias and Maurzee McCray Eddings in Collierville, Tennessee. She was educated in Shelby County public schools. Fannie accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She joined New Shelby Missionary Baptist Church in Collierville, Tennessee, serving faithfully wherever she was needed.

Later she moved to Memphis and reunited with Winrow Chapel CME Church on Truse Road. She was a member of the choir and served on the Stewardess Board. When the McKinney subdivision was sold, they rented space at Greenwood CME Church. Finally, Winrow was able to purchase land on Knight Arnold Road, and under the leadership of Reverend George, construction was started for a new edifice. Consequently, the name was changed to Winrow Saint Paul CME Church.

Fannie was a dedicated church member and she worked tirelessly doing fundraiser after fundraiser to help the financing of the church. She was a very humble soul, and she helped and encouraged so many along the way.

She was employed at St. Mary’s Episcopal School for forty years. She received so many rewards and plaques during her tenure. The faculty honored Ms. Fannie (as she was affectionately called) with a retirement celebration on January 22, 2009.

After her retirement, she got involved in the Orange Mound Community Center. She joined the Etta Richie Choir and participated in water aerobics. Fannie was also involved in sending greeting cards to people. She even received an award for sending the most cards within a 30-day period.

God, our Heavenly Father, who is Merciful and Great, saw that Fannie’s work down here was complete. In His infinite wisdom, He called her home on Friday, November 12, 2021, at St. Francis Hospital.

Fannie was preceded in death by her parents. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Carl Morrow (Mary), Evelyn Benton (James) and Charlotte Morrow all of Memphis, Tennessee, and Jeff Warr (Lillie) of Alton Illinois; twelve grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Geraldine Campbell and Francise Williams, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family has scheduled a public viewing for Friday November 19, from 4 pm until 7 pm. Service of celebration on Saturday November 20, 12 pm, both at Winrow St. Paul C.M.E. Church 5865 Knight Arnold Rd.

Internment will be Monday November 22, 10 am in Memorial Park Southwoods 5485 Hacks Cross Rd.

Mask are required for all in attendance.

Aunt Fannie, you will truly be missed. One of my favorite memories of you was when me and my husband, Fred, moved to Maryland you would send us some homemade rolls for the holiday. Richard was the FedEx delivery driver and would deliver them to my job. The rolls were so good you could smell them through the box. Every year that I got them at work I had to take them straight to the car because my co-workers wanted some each year. I almost had to fight my way out with those rolls. That is just one of my favorite memories of you Aunt Fannie. There are so many more. I enjoyed talking with and visiting you Auntie every time I came to Memphis. In a lot of ways you stepped in after my mom went home to be with the Lord. I love you Auntie and know you are in a better place. You are always in my heart. Love, San

As Head of School at St Mary's Episcopal Schoool,Memphis,TN it was my honor and joy to work with Fannie Warr as a member of our Facilities Team for 14 of her 40 years at the School. There was never a day when Fannie's presence didn't bring energy, joy, grace, compassion, kindness, and warmth to all those students, faculty, staff and Team members with whom she worked and/or came in contact. Her Christian presence touched us all in a unique and personal way. It was at the time of her retirement that The Fannie Warr Service Award was established in her honor; the Award is presented yearly to a deserved member of the School's faculty, staff,or administration for outstanding service thus assuring that Fannie's name and impact upon our community will live on in perpetuity. Thanks be to God for sending Ms Fannie Warr to our school for 40 years; I will miss our yearly Christmas chats and Christmas card exchanges. Blessings, love, prayers and condolences to all her family. Sincerely, Thomas N Southard, Former Head of St. Mary's Episcopal School.
