To Dorrie and Family: We the Cooke Family of Sumter send to you our love and deepest sympathy during the loss of Mrs. Toney. She made such a powerful impact upon this community as well as our families. We were connected in a special way through Ella and Heyward. She was always supportive in celebrations be it weddings, births, family reunions and death. She was always present in our lives. We are grateful for the memories we created, the most memorable was the bus trip to Detroit. She will always be remembered as a pioneer in the community. May the grace of God provide you comfort and reassurance of the life everlasting where we shall meet again. A memorial will be sent in her memory as requested.

Ms. Toney was a beautiful woman, inside and out. I had the privilege of working with her at Tuomey and she was may nurse when my first child was born. She was a person who preached Christ daily without speaking a single word. Her actions spoke for her. I have thought of her often over the last 50 years and I know she will be missed.

To the Toney family, my condolences to you . Know that death is not the end, but a transition. As Christians, Christ conquered death for all of us. We grieve, yet through Christ we know our grief will turn to joy. And in the midst of our grief, we can join Job in saying, "I know that my Redeemer lives." (Job 19:25 NIV) As you walk through this valley, find comfort in the memories of your Mother and know that you are continually in our thoughts and prayers. God's faithfulness! Emma C. Brown, Thomasina C. Tyler, Lottie Cooper & Linda Cooper

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you John 14:27. Praying that you'll be surrounded by His comforting love and filled with peace that only He can give. I will miss speaking with Mrs. Toney and hearing stories of her illustrious career, to include personal anecdotes of her life that always made me laugh. She was feisty, but kind and a fighter for many in her community and beyond. Noteworthy is the South Hope Center and preserving Lincoln High in Sumter, where she chaired the membership committee and I enjoyed dealing envelopes with her. Let's not forget that she was the first Black Headnurse at Prisma Hospital Sumter, aka Tuomey. She slipped away, but is always a memory away in my mind and has an endearing spot in my heart.

To my cousin Dorey losing a parent is a unimaginable pain, but as time goes on the scar shall heal. Aunt Dot live a fulfilling life and left us with so many treasures from her treasure chest to remember her by. She has no more suffering and now rejoices within the gates of glory. She will be dearly missed. Rest In Peace 💜
