Obituary For Velma Davis

To everything there is a season, And a time to every purpose under the heaven.

-Ecclesiastes 3:1 A TIME TO BE BORN: Sister Velma Miller Davis was the third born to the late Helen and Robert Miller Sr. on February 19, 1953 in Brooks County Georgia.

A TIME TO DIE: Under clear sunny skies as the day slipped pass noon, November 18, 2021, Velma closed her eyes and passed from this life, surrendering her breath of life to our almighty God.

A TIME TO PLANT: Sister Velma received her education in the Valdosta City School System, graduating from Valdosta High School in the Class of 1971. She attended Valdosta Technical School, Valdosta State College and Georgia Military College. She was employed at Levi Strauss for over 20 years. Sister Velma was ambitious, passionate and filled with compassion. Her ambitious led her to entrepreneurship. She owned and managed a daycare. Her compassion steered her to a commitment to fostering many kids over the years. Many of those children continue to call her “Mom”.

A TIME TO SERVE Answering the call to serve, Sister Davis was dedicated to many roles at the Grace Fellowship Seventh Day Adventist Church. Sister Velma served as an usher, deaconess, song leader, soloist, choir member, Path Finder Director and the Church Board Leadership Team. She also was part of the community service and hospitality teams. With love of Christ entrenched within, she served diligently & steadfastly. She remained a faithful servant until she was called home to eternal rest. Servant well done!

A TIME TO LOVE and LAUGH: Blessed with three strong and extremely loving boys, she spent her time caring for their well-being, nurturing their dreams and providing the necessities of the household. She was a devout woman that often spoke her mind yet always spoke from the heart. From Hightower Street to Lilly Street, no matter the house nor the street our house was indeed a home because of the spiritual guidance, discipline, hugs, laughter and family bound rooted in Christ and fostered by her… our mother’s everlasting love.

A TIME OF PEACE She leaves to cherish her memories, 4 devoted sons, Reginald (Katrina) Miller- Columbus, GA, Carlos (Atasha) Parker- Augusta, GA, William Davis(BJ) - Columbus, GA, & Shawn Jackson—Valdosta, GA 2 Sisters; Helen (Larry) Baker – Valdosta, GA, Stephanie (Henry) Corbett – Valdosta, GA 3 brothers Napoleon (Deloise) Miller of Valdosta, GA Alfred (Michelle) Miller of Grayson, GA and Alphonzo Miller of Lawrenceville, GA, and 1 brother, Robert Miller who preceded her in death; 5 grandsons, Tyler, Devonta, Skyler, Trysten, Justin & Aiden; 3 granddaughters, Alexandria, Alexi, and Sanai; great-grandchildren(4) and a host Nieces, Nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Will be truly missed. Will miss your quick infections smile. Will miss abundant zest for life. Will miss unshakable faith and love for your Heavenly Father that she shared readily. You would leave her presence charged to face your challenges with a victorious attitude. She loved her family and went the extra miles to make it known. I was inspired to be a better person.
