Thelma G. Lawrence

Tallahassee - Thelma Gaines Lawrence went home to be with the Lord on November 20, 2021 at the age of 101. She was born on November 27, 1919 to the late George and Katie Gaines.

Mrs. Lawrence was a retired educator who served the children of Leon County for nearly forty (40) years as a Classroom Teacher. Her teaching career began in the rural schools of Leon County. Eventually, she would enjoy her longest appointment at the John G. Riley Elementary School.

Mrs. Lawrence was a member of the Bethel A.M.E. Church for many years and served in a variety of capacities to include Chair of both Stewardess Board #3 and the Courtesy Guild. She was also a member of the Elkins-Williams Women's Missionary Society.

Mrs. Lawrence served as a proud member of the Beta Delta Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.

She was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, the late Freeman Delano Lawrence. He, too, was an educator in the Leon County School System having most notably been the last Principal of the Original Lincoln High School. She leaves to cherish precious memories a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Graveside service will be Wednesday, December 01, 2021, 11:00 a.m. at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, 700 Timberlane Road. Viewing will be Tuesday, November 30th at Strong & Jones Funeral Home, 629 West Brevard Street from 10:00 am to 5:00 p.m. Wake service will follow from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 pm.

At the end of a well spent Life, Mrs. Lawrence's ultimate reward is eternity with the Lord.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bethel AME Church Scholarship Fund.
