Obituary For Rev. Thomas J. Haynes, Sr.

The Life of Revered Thomas β€œT. J.” James Haynes, Sr.

Reverend Thomas James Haynes, Sr. was born to the late Willie and Cora Haynes on March 3, 1933 in Madison, Florida. He departed his earthly life on November 21, 2021 in Georgia. Reverend Haynes attended Madison County Public Schools. Deeply rooted in faith, he committed his life to Christ at the young age of nine years old. He was a devoted member of Pineland Missionary Baptist Church and was called to minister at age 11. Reverend Haynes further expressed his love for God by ministering through music. He joined the quartet group β€œTraveling Stars” and eventually became the lead singer.

Rev. Haynes was no stranger to hard work. He was the first black licensed contractor in Madison County where he proudly served for over sixty years. He also accepted his first church assignment in the mid-1950s and would later minister at several churches, to include: Mt. Moriah, Pinetta, Florida; Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, Monticello, Florida; Oak Grove Baptist Church, Boston, Georgia; Hosanna Missionary Baptist Church, Lake Park, Georgia; Greater Saint James Missionary Baptist Church, Valdosta, Georgia; and Gospel Train Outreach Ministry, Madison, Florida. The simplest pleasures brought great joy to Reverend Haynes. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, cooking, raising livestock, as well as fellowshipping and preaching. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and seven brothers. Reverend Haynes leaves to cherish his memory former wife Omie Jean Haynes; seven daughters: Judith Hill (late Donald), Jerri Ferguson (Charles), Obra Baynard (Lee), Phyllis Haynes, Carol Hiers, Anna Akins and Cassandra Haynes; five sons: Thomas Haynes (Cheryl), David Haynes (Natalie), Loronya Haynes, Charles Arnold, Marcus Haynes (Ranee), and a son in love Pastor George W. Blunt (Serita) He also leaves a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends to share his memories

To the Haynes Family you are in my prayers and I appreciate being apart of this family. Reverend Haynes was like a another father to me and a spiritual father to my son Justus who is now a youth pastor in the ministry, I am so glad I had the opportunity to have known such a wise and God fearing man. With deepest sympathy... Pastor Haynes will be truly missed. He was a Pastor who could teach the Bible and who really cared about not only his church members but every person, thing, and creation from God. He loved dogs, hunting, singing, talking about God and laughing, and showing love. It's still unbelievable that we will never see Pastor Haynes on this earth alive and well, however, we know that if we can live according to Gods plans and like Pastor Haynes preached, we will see him again. It's not Good bye, only Howdy, Howdy. Praying for the family and each person impacted by the passing of a phenomenon Pastor.
