Obituary For Mr. Robert Dozier

For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. 2 Corinthians 5:1 Robert Lee Dozier was born on Thursday, September 23, 1937, in Salters, SC to parents James and Elizabeth Burrows Dozier. He departed this earthly life and began his heavenly journey on Tuesday, November 23, 2021. Robert, also referred to as Bobby by his family, was the 8th of 10 children born into a loving and close-knit family. He was one they all could depend on to be that voice of reason, a pilar of support and a source of strength. He sincerely loved his parents and his siblings, and he remained close to each of them throughout their lifetimes. Robert was educated in the Williamsburg Co. School System, and he graduated from Blakely High School where he was on the basketball team and was a bus driver. Upon his high school graduation, he attended Morris College in Sumter, SC. While attending Morris College, Robert met his future bride, Maria Porter. On September 11, 1964, they were joined in Holy Matrimony. To this union, they were blessed with four wonderful children. Their eldest daughter, Brenda Michelle (Mickie) and their unborn grandson preceded him in death. Robert made his living working in the textile industry and as a Farmer. He was widely known for his tobacco, corn, and soybean crops. He enjoyed the outdoors and working with his hands. Robert was also known for growing and selling sweet potatoes and sugar canes however in all actuality, he gave more of them away than he sold. Robert loved God, his family, his church family, and his community. He faithfully served as a Deacon at Marion Missionary Baptist Church for more than 45 years. He also served in various other capacities when needed. Robert was a true Man of God, and this was demonstrated in the love he showed to all and his service to others. Robert was a family man who dearly loved his wife and children. There was no need too great or sacrifice too large when it came to providing for his family. Robert loved his community and he served as a Role Model to many. He always provided a listening ear and sound advice to anyone in need. He also served as a Father Figure to many of the young people in the Trio and surrounding communities. He had a Servant’s Heart, and his presence will be sorely missed. Robert was predeceased by both of his parents and siblings James Dozier Jr, Daisy Wilson, Willie Goldie Dozier, George Troy Dozier, Charles Dozier, Edward Dozier, and Theron Dozier. Those left to cherish his precious memories are his loving wife of 57 years Maria P. Dozier, daughters Sharon (Wayne) Richbow and Katina (Chaunce) Harris, one son, Robert Tyrone Dozier, granddaughters Kayla Sparks, Gabrielle Richbow, and Courtney Richbow. Two sisters, Lillie Matthews, and Odell Bartell, nine sisters-inlaw; Lila Dozier, Iva D. Nesmith, Thelma Dozier, Catherine Dozier, Eloise White, Eva Carroll, Maggie (Chappell) McMillan, Rosa Williams and Elizabeth Sumpter, one brother-in-law, Rev. James (Catherine) Porter. Also remaining are a host of nieces, nephews, several close relatives, and lifelong friends. Although Robert’s passing may have left a void in the hearts of many, we’ll find comfort in the words of one of his favorite songs “God will take care of You.” Let us continue to trust His plan and lean on Him for guidan

We were saddened to hear that our beloved cousin took on his spiritual wings and escaped this old sinful world. We realize that in order to see Jesus, we must get rid of the corruptible and take on the incorruptible. Robert Dozier, affectionately known as Bobby, has gone from his earthly labor to his heavenly reward. The family will miss him. Rest In Peace, Sir. The Major Family (Maryland and Washington, D.C.)
