Ossie Pearl Johnson

11/22/1941 - 11/19/2021

~The Obituary~

On November 22, 1941, God blessed Thomas “TJ” Johnson, Sr. and Essie Lee Franklin-Johnson with baby girl number three, Ossie “Pearl” Johnson. She gained her wings on Friday, November 19, 2021, at South GA Medical Center, Valdosta, GA.

Although born in Pahokee, FL, Ossie was raised in the Grooverville Community, attended Simmon Hill School, and was a proud graduate of the Class of 1960 from Washington Street High, Quitman, GA. As an adolescent, she gave her life to Christ and joined Emmanuel New Beginnings Ministries, formerly, Emmanuel A.M.E. Church, where she served faithfully until her health failed.

With her passion for fashion and sewing, Ossie desired to pursue a career in the fashion industry, but her caring and loving spirit lead her to stay home and care for her parents. As an entrepreneur, her dream of becoming a traveling seamstress was made a reality locally; she was often referenced as the best seamstress in the area! She designed wedding gowns, children’s clothes, bell bottoms and more. Soon she became known as the “Double-breasted Diva”, sewing and selling her infamous double-breasted skirt suit throughout the community and town.

Ossie was preceded in death by siblings Geneva Dickens, Thomas Johnson, Jr., Jimmy Johnson, J.C. Johnson, Essie Sims, and Rudolph Johnson, Sr. She leaves to cherish her legacy, sisters, Earlene Ford, Valdosta, GA, Patricia Dixon, Quitman, GA, a special niece and nephew that she raised as biological children, Franklin Johnson (Carla), Orlando, FL, and Thelma Johnson-Grant, Atlanta, GA. Blessing every life she touched, she has reared and cared for 4 generations, leaving a loving family of nieces, nephews, God-children, classmates, and friends.

A celebration of life was Saturday, November 27, 2021 at 3PM at Calvary Christian Center with Rev. Alonza Fudge, eulogist. Burial was followed in Pineview Cemetery in Morven.

Continue to keep the family in your daily thoughts and prayers.
