Obituary For Willie "Jabu" Brunson, Jr

Manning, SC

Brother Willie Brunson, Jr., youngest child of four born to the late Willie Brunson, Sr. and Nora Conyers Brunson was born June 24, 1937 in Manning, South Carolina. He was preceded in death by a brother, two sisters and a niece.

Affectionately and universally known as “JABU”or Jabbie”, he was educated in the Clarendon County School System, where at the age of 15, he took a “break” to serve his country in the United States Army from 1954-1957. After receiving an honorable discharge, he returned to complete his education and graduated from Manning Training High School Class of 1962. Although loving and bighearted, “Jabu” never became a husband or father. Instead, he poured his love and affections on his parents, siblings, nieces, nephews and his other relatives.

At one of his life’s crossroads, Jabu joined Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church where he served until his health declined.

On Tuesday, November 30, 2021, God sent his angels to bring “Jabbie” home.

“Jabu” leaves to cherish his fond memories, two nephews, Alphonza (Gardenia) Cain, Sr. of Manning, SC and Charles (Janice) Brown, Jr. of Hopkins, SC; nieces: Valencia B. Pugh, who was his caregiver, Carolyn Tomlin, Edith (Herbert) King and Quilena K. Taylor of all of Manning, SC, Dora J. It is with deep sadness that I leave these words of sympathy. Jaboo was more than a Cousin to Me. He was also a Father figure to Me especially up Lantern Lane. He was a good friend and I know that that might sound odd, My Cousin and My friend but.. He was. He was also My cool Cousin. He ALWAYS called Me Dobie... That was My name whenever I was around Him. I'm going to surely miss My Cuz. My arms are stretched out to Charles"Cookie" and Valencia "Lent Brown and Our entire Family 🥺🥺🙏🏾🙏🏾💜💜
