Obituary For David Lee Bennett

Manning, SC

The death angel came quietly to the bedside of David Lee Bennett, Sr. on Wednesday, December 1, 2021.

David Lee Bennett, Sr. was born March 27, 1962 to the late King Bennett, Sr. and Earlean Pugh Bennett.

He received his formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County where he was reared and later worked as a mechanic at Manning Auto Supply.

Always a free spirit, David eventually expanded his gifts as a mechanic and opened David’s R&B Muffler in which he was owner operator. He was also a masterful grill man and took pride in being the initial winner of the now annual “Bennett Family Cook Off”.

In his youth, David attended Union Cypress African Methodist Episcopal Church and later attended Word of Outreach Ministry under the leadership of Reverend Michael Abraham.

His memory will be cherished by his wife, Wanda Yvette Gainey Bennett; three sons, David (Shakayla) Bennett, Jr., David Bennett, III, Akii Hill; five daughters: Crystal (Reverend Antonio) Green, Chrissie Bennett, Shayla Bennett, Dimeisha Hill, Lakeila (Lashaun) Nelson; four stepchildren, Danielle Burns, Domonique Gainey, Jeremy Gainey and Deshawn Burns; four brothers, Lawrence (Louise) Bennett, King (Deloris) Bennett, Jr., Clyde (Arlene) Bennett and Sheldon (Rochelle) Bennett; three sisters: Beulah (Joseph) Holliday, Carolyn (Alexander, Sr.) Thompson and Beverly (Quentin) Durant; twenty-four grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Bennett were held 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at The Matrix Center, 4648 Kingstree Hwy. Manning, SC. Burial followed in the Union Cypress AME Church Cemetery, Manning.

The family received friends at the home of his sister and brother-in-law Carolyn (Alexander) Thompson, 1100 Foxbrook Ln., Manning, SC.
