He received his education in the public schools of Clarendon County. Most of his professional life he was employed with Federal Mogul of Summerton, South Carolina. He retired in June of 2009 after 30 years of service.
John grew up a dedicated member of St. Phillip UME Church in Pinewood, South Carolina. He later joined Liberty Hill AME and became a proud member of the male chorus and Sons of Allen. In his free time, he enjoyed family, taking rides, and fishing. He had a soft spot for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and took pride in being a good provider for his family. A stickler for good grades and successful careers, he often encouraged these things as obtainable measures.
John was joined in holy matrimony to Juline on September 24, 1965. This union was blessed with three children.
On Friday, December 3, 2021, John entered into eternal rest at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, South Carolina.
His survivors are his son, John E. Brailsford of South Carolina, Bouregard (Sylvia) Brailsford of North Carolina, Samuel Brailsford of Alabama, and Anthony (Deyum) Riley of South Carolina ; one brother, Richard Brailsford of Rimini; three sisters, Willie Mae Mathis of Summerton, Clara Bowers of Sumter, and Eva (Lewis) Brown of Summerton; nine grandchildren, John (Brittany) Brailsford, Jelisa Brailsford, Danielle (Derek) Gathers, Zamora Brailsford, Alexus Brailsford, Shakeyla (Christopher) Chiles, Azariah Brailsford, Matthew Brailsford, D’Andre Riley, and Antonio (Domonique) Riley; twelve great-grandchildren; one god-child, Cotrease A. (Brandon) Brooks; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Graveside services were held 12:00 Noon Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Liberty AME Churchyard Cemetery, 2310 Liberty Hill Road, Summerton, SC. Rev. Archie Temoney, Pastor, officiated.
Due to COVID-19 guidelines, the family did not receive visitors.
