The angle from Heaven descended from above to come and claim Mr. Burnell Smith on Wednesday morning, to be a part of the Heavenly bouquet.

Mr. Smith was born on September 7, 1928, in Harriston, MS to the late John Smith and Allean (Willie) Pittman. Mr. Smith departed this life on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at the Jefferson Davis Community Hospital.

Mr. Burnell Smith worked as a certified mechanic, and in his spare time he organized tourist to Mexico and other areas for livelihood pleasure. Mr. Smith joined Hollisday Creek Baptist Church and remained a faithful attendant. Mr. Smith loved the children at Hollisday as he would bring apples, oranges, pecan and candies every Christmas until his health failed. Mr. Smith had a passion for gardening; he would grow vegetables and share them with the community. Mr. Smith also loved family gatherings and reunions. Most of Mr. Smith’s life was spent in New Orleans and providing for his family. In 2005, after hurricane Katrina, Mr. Smith moved his family to Jefferson Davis County. Mr. Smith brought with him his loving wife, the late Queen E. Smith. TO this union, five children were born. Preceding Mr. Smith in death are his parents, brothers, sisters and grandson.

Mr. Smith leaves to cherish his memories: his loving wife, Emma Smith; daughters, Sharon Diane (David) Poole of Prentiss, Brenda Ann (Rick) Wilson of Durant OK, and Burnester (Ernest) Cooley of Shreveport, LA; sons; Vernell (Karen) Smith of Opelousas, LA, John Andre (Gilda) Smith of Expose, MS, stepchildren Michael Hinton, Marcia Hinton of Hattiesburg, Denise Hinton of Collins, Patricia Bridges of Denver, CO, Brian and Derrick Hinton of Dallas, TX, sister; Georgia Ripp of MN, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, relatives and friends

Funeral services for Mr. Burnell Smith will be held on Saturday December 18, 2021 at 12pm (noon). The services will be held at Laird Mortuary Chapel.

Viewing for Mr. Burnell Smith will be held on Friday December 17, 2021 from 1-5pm with the wake from 5-7pm, at Laird Mortuary Chapel.
