James Taylor

Passed 12/16/2021

James “Jimmy” Taylor was born May 30, 1935 in Robeson County to the late James Wilson Taylor and Millie Ratley Moore. In addition to his parents, Jimmy was also preceded in death by two sisters and eleven brothers.

He was educated at Southside High School in Rowland, North Carolina. He served in the United States Army and upon discharge, settled in Bronx, NY. He married the love of his life, Virginia Currie Taylor on December 28, 1957 and had three children, Brenda Wilson, Michael K. Taylor and Sandra Taylor, who preceded him in death.

For over 30 years, he was a professional truck driver who received multiple commendations for excellence and district driver of the year award for achieving 1.6 million accident free, violation free miles in metropolitan New York. His employers and customers held him in high regard as a consummate professional.

Jimmy and Virginia moved to Greensboro, North Carolina in 1999 where he enjoyed gardening and growing beautiful tomatoes, keeping his yard immaculate, driving around town and teasing his nieces and their spouses. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where he attended faithfully and regularly. Instead of slowing down to enjoy some free time, he and Virginia worked part time at the 911 operations center for 15 years.

Jimmy was affectionately known by many and loved by all. He was a soft-spoken man who always greeted you with a smile.

Heaven’s gates opened for James Taylor on December 16, 2021 at Moses H. Cone hospital. God whispered, “Peace Be Thine”, and the angels gave him wings, with his devoted wife, Virginia, lovingly by his side. He was loved very dearly and was surrounded by a caring and adoring family who will miss him very much. Jimmy leaves to cherish his memory, his dedicated wife of 64 years: Virginia C. Taylor of the home, daughter: Brenda Wilson of Providence, Rhode Island, son: Michael K. Taylor of the home, grandchildren: Karyn Wilson and Michael Wilson of Providence, Rhode Island, great grandchildren: Kyrel Yerima, Nyeese Berritos and Christopher Berritos of Providence, Rhode Island, Sisters: Maggie Low (Seaborn) Anderson, Joyce Kelley, Bobby Ann (Bishop Leroy) Chandler and Barbara F.
