Obituary For Ernestine Mills

Ernestine Mills was born on November 3, 1932, in Dalton, Georgia. Her parents were Buford Cooper Harrison and Lee Ernest Patton. She was the only child her parents ever had. She married her first husband and upon finishing High School, she went off to attend Nursing School where she began to obtain her degree in Nursing. But while in Nursing School she became pregnant with her now deceased daughter Rosetta Diana Young. While taking care of Rosetta, she then became pregnant with her son Norman Lee by her second husband. During this time, she realized her passion was children. Ernestine Mills decided to take her talent to to the NYPD where she would have the opportunity to embrace her passion and provide endless services to the low socioeconomic communities in New York City. Ernestine Mills went on to have three additional children Helen Mills, Brigette Mills, and Sylvia Mills with her third and final husband. Her youngest died at the tender age of 11. Year after, she channeled the pain of losing her child into raising her grandchildren. Ernestine began to raise grandchild Sylvia C. Owens from the day she was born. Some time later, she was given two more amazing grandchildren to raise, Shawna S. Mills, and Sean C. Mills. As with the grandchildren she raised and her additional grandchildren Latisa Shorts, Angela Shorts, Donald Young, Jenae Lee, Stefan Mills, Corin Mills and Cidney James, her love was beyond measure. She was a woman who provided support, wisdom, morals and values that was instilled in anyone who crossed her path. Ernestine had 5 children and 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. "Nana" was her name to many who crossed her path, but a gift from God to those who she raised.
