Obituary For Eleanor L. Hall (Sales)

Eleanor L. Hall was born September 3rd 1929 to the late John P. and Mattie Sales of Amherst, VA. She is one of twelve children, five sisters and six brothers. She graduated from Amherst High School in 1949. Eleanor moved to Washington D.C., where she met and married Calvin C. Hall in 1951. To that union brought five children, four boys and one girl. In 1962, Eleanor joined Israel Baptist Church and was a member until her passing on December 17, 2021. She was also a member of the Virginia Club and the U Cancer Survivor Club. Eleanor loved being with family and friends having her Sunday dinners and playing cards. She also enjoyed traveling and talking with family and friends, as she is affectionately known by all as Nannie. Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband Calvin C. Hall, her four brothers, George Sales, Paige Sales, Charles Sales and James Sales. Her two sisters, Martha Moore Crawford and Louise Walls. She is also preceded by her son Michael Hall and his wife Doretha Hall and one grandson, Antonio Simms. Eleanor is survived by three sisters and two brothers, Carolyn Sales, Mildred Bennett, Geraldine Thomas, Andrew (Betty) Sales and Roosevelt (Janifer) Sales. Survived to cherish her memory are Eleanor’s sons Darrell (Lorvette) Hall, Curtis (Ellen) Hall, Bruce (Vida) Hall, and daughter Veronica Hall. Also, two additional sisters-in-law, Delores Payne and Marian Sales, one brother-in-law, Ketrick Walls, sixteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends will cherish her memory as well.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 1, 2022 at 4:30 p.m. at J.B. Jenkins Funeral Home, Landover, MD.

A local service will be held Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Piney Grove Baptist Church, Amherst, VA with Rev. Edward Hendricks, officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until time of service. Interment will follow at The Sales Family Cemetery. (Family and friends may view her remains Friday, January 7, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. until close, at Community Funeral Home, Lynchburg, VA)

Hairston Funeral Home, Martinsville, VA, will be in charge of local arrangements.
