Modeste Lucas-Moore

Passed 12/19/2021

Modeste was born April 25, 2001, in Rocky Mount, NC and moved to Greensboro, NC at the age of 2 months where she lived until her passing on 12/19/2021. Although she was here only 20 short years, she left a long-lasting impact on her family and friends.

Modeste is the oldest of three children by her mother (Shannell) and father (Roderick). Her younger sister (Makahlen) and brother (Devon) will deeply miss her but forever have her in their hearts. Modeste is the oldest grandchild of Herman Lucas and Linda Barnes. She is the oldest niece to her aunt Bernetta and was like a big sister to her cousin Ayden. She is also thought of as a niece by her mother’s best friend Ronnette. Modeste has many family members including two uncles on her mother’s side, an aunt and uncle on her father’s side and a host of cousins, great aunts, and great uncles.

Modeste graduated from Dudley High School in June 2019 and began her freshman year at UNCG shortly after. She was to follow in her mother’s footsteps and graduate from UNCG and continue to obtain her master's degree from NC A&T State University. Modeste majored in biology with hopes of becoming a doctor or physical therapist in the future. Modeste was in her junior year at UNCG at her time of passing.

Modeste had many friends over the years that she truly loved and cared for. She and her best friend/boyfriend Brenden Neal were inseparable until she became ill and later passed away. Modeste spent most of her spare time playing Playstation with her friends Wanya, Najee, Elijah, Jaylen, Jirel, and RJ. She also enjoyed catching up with her high school best friends; Ayana, Khiyah, Dominique, Naneise, Tiosha, Naria, Morrisa, and Maria. Modeste had also made new friends during her part-time employment.

Although Modeste had many people that care about her, she and her mother were like sisters and could depend on each other to always be there and love one another no matter what. She will forever live in her mother’s heart.
