On Sunday, December 31, 1950, in Sylacauga, Alabama, Arthur Smoot, Sr. and Willie Mae Chapman Smoot welcomed a son, Billy Ray Smoot.

Mr. Smoot dedicated his life to Christ and united in faith with Africa Missionary Baptist Church where he was a dedicated member. Billy loved to sing and used his talents to glorify God as a member of the choir. He was educated in Talladega County and was a member of the 1970 graduating class of Winterboro High School. Billy was a very soft spoken man, but that did not mean that he was not a comedian. The very lighthearted side of Billy enjoyed watching game shows such as Family Feud and The Price Is Right. If a game show did not capture his attention, Gunsmoke and other westerns would surely do the trick. When it came to Billy’s serious side, his family by birth and family by faith were at the top of his list. He was a hard worker and dedicated ten years to Bemiston Mill, Inc. and nineteen years with Avondale Mills until he retired. On the evening of Sunday, December 26, 2021, Billy answered the call of his Lord and Savior at his residence. He was preceded in passing by his parents, Arthur Smoot, Sr. and Willie Mae Smoot; and three brothers, Paul Smoot, Arthur Smoot, Jr. and Lee Roy Smoot. He leaves to cherish his memories: three sisters, Shirley (Melvin) Chatman, Carolyn (Robert) Stamps and Wanda Smoot of Talladega, Alabama; one brother, Craig Smoot (Regina Culver) of Talladega, Alabama; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Guest Book

Billy Ray was never a dull moment, I'm just happy that I got a chance to drink one of those heinekens with them in front of his Vizio he always talked about, The only thing he talked about more was his wife, and how lucky he was to know her and have her.
