Not having grown up with either of my parents and raised by a maternal aunt and her husband in NY, I wasn't afforded the family history on my Dad's side of the family. It wasn't until my Dad entered hospice care that I took the opportunity to question him about many things to include our family history on his father's side of the family. He responded that I had to meet our Cousins Harold Nelson, Sr. and Alonzo Middleton to get all the details. Within an hour, I met our cousins and a new love affair with my elders began. Through them I also met Cousin Violet and Cousin Juanita. I am eternally thankful for my father's parting gift, meeting my elder Cousins. Through our cousins I learned about the Nelson family history, how I was connected in the family tree, along with great stories. In addition to a driving tour of the family's legacy Cousin Harold pulled out ALL of the historical ancestral family photos, trusting me with his precious memories, he allowed me to scan the photos and document who was who. From the moment I met Cousin Harold and Violet, we bonded instantly and when Billy met Cousin Harold, a new "bromance" was born, (LOL!), I don't know who was more excited to get back to Charleston to visit Cuz Harold and Violet, me or Billy! My sister Jacqui and I often discuss and imagine what life for us would have been like for as little girls if we had Cousin Harold in our lives while growing up. We concluded, we would have been spoiled rotten and laugh at the possibilities of various scenarios. Billy, Jacqui and I will miss the great visits, conversations, family stories, and jokes shared with Cousin Harold. We will miss his great smile and quick wit. We will miss his voice, but we are incredibly thankful for our time together and for the blessings of our memories. We wish Cousin Harold perfect peace in heaven as he enjoys his grand reunion with all those who love him. Sending prayers of comfort condolences to Cuz Poochie, Christine, and the entire Nelson family. A special thanks to everyone who aided in his care and supported Harold Jr. during this last year. With love and remembrance. Kim Bright, Jacqui Bright & Billy Blackwell
