Gwendolyn attended Cleveland High School. She was a member of Living Waters Church under the leadership of Bishop Carolyn Briggs. Gwendolyn was a loving, caring, open-hearted, high spirited person and the most hard-working woman you would ever meet. She met no strangers because to her everyone was kin. Whether by blood or not, everyone still called her “Grandmaw Gwen”. “Gwen” opened not only her heart but, her home to everyone.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Margie Eaves Griffin (Emmett Griffin, Sr.); father, Louis Beam; her husband, Ed Thompson, Jr.; two sons, Edd Thompson, III and Ivan Thompson; sister, Lynn Toms (Leon); brothers, Emmett Griffin, Jr., James Beam, Jr., Ivory “Pig” Wray and Calvin Beam; grandchild, Justin Sanders; great grandchild, Daquarius Sanders and a nephew, Eric Sanders.
She leaves to cherish fond memories to her sons, Eric “Tony” Thompson (Marilyn), Timothy Thompson (Nikki), Edriel “Mont” Thompson, Mario Moore (Cherina) and Ontario Ross daughter, Markela Ross Weary (Xavier); a daughter-in-law, Michelle Thompson; brothers, Larry Wray, Vigor “Fella” Beam, Jerry Beam,and Steve Gaston; sisters, Carolyn Griffin, Patricia Moore, Cassandra Mendoza, Janice “Dusty” Wray, Cynthia “Red” Wray, Denise Petti (Dennis), Zinnie Brooks (Bernard), Precilla Adams (Mike) and Cathy Beam; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; special friend, Lindeana McDowell and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral service for Mrs. Thomspson will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at 3:00 PM at Ellis Chapel Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at the church. The family will be meeting at 400 Highland Avenue and 1520 Marlwood Drive Shelby. In honor of her if you are attending the service please wear white, purple, gold and silver.
