Obituary For Geraldine Johnson Bethel

Geraldine Johnson Bethel was born on June 12, 1933, in Rochelle, Georgia (Wilcox County). She was the fifth of eleven children born to the late Edward Jones Johnson, Sr. and Lue Pearl R. Johnson.

She received her formative years of education in Wilcox County (Rochelle, GA). Later, moving to Florida where she received a tech degree from Indian River Community College as a Certified Operating Room Technician, retiring from Lawnwood Medical Center.

Ms. Gerri was a member of Bethel Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Byrd. She later became a member of St. Simeon Episcopal Church under Father Richard L. Barry. Her membership remained there until her retirement from Lawnwood Medical Center. She later joined her daughter at Greater Mount Pleasant Primitive Baptist Church under Elder Charles L. Hendley. There she remained a faithful member until her demise. She was a faithful member of the Matrons Society, the Pastor’s Aide, Prayer Band, the Mass Choir and the Nurses Guild.

Preceded her in death were her parents, five sisters, and two brothers, one child and one grandson.

She leaves to rejoice in her homegoing and those who will forever treasure her memory the following: two daughters, Deborah (David) Forrester, Fort Pierce, FL; Cassandra (Leon) Hendley Vero Beach, FL; two sons, James (Pamela) Fort, Tallahassee, FL ; Guerian (Phyllis) Fort, Gainesville, FL; two sisters; Bernice J. Phillips and Eloise J. Leach, Atlanta Ga; one brother, William G. Johnson, Clarksville, Tennessee and 10 Grandchildren, 18 Great-grands and 1 Great-Great- Grand; and host of devoted nephews, nieces, cousins and loving friends that will miss her dearly.

Public visitation for Geraldine Johnson Bethel will take place on Friday, January 7, 2022 from 6:00pm-7:00pm at Greater Mount Pleasant Primitive Baptist Church in Fort Pierce, FL. Funeral services will convene on Saturday, January 8, 2022 also at Greater Mount Pleasant Primitive Baptist Church in Fort Pierce, FL beginning at 1:00pm. Burial will immediately follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

Although many venues have opened and the restrictions of COVID-19 have been relaxed, we at Stone Brothers Funeral Homes are still enforcing the guidelines set forth by the CDC and FDOH to protect our families and our staff. We ask that you respect this, as it could very well save your life. We also ask that you acknowledge and execute the 6 feet social distancing guidelines as well.

I am forever grateful to her as a child growing up in St. Simon and as a young nurse working with her in the operating rooms at Ft. Pierce Memorial Hospital. James, Cassandra, and Geurian, may you all find comfort in knowing that ( your mother, my sister) is in God's memory. She will never have to face the Last Enemy, death again.
