Obituary

Mary “Gene” Reynolds passed away quietly on January 2, 2022. She was born May 9, 1935 in Alabama to Otis and Julia Ware, who both preceded her in death. She was the older sister to one brother, Robert Ware and they spent their early years in Anniston, Alabama. She would later live in Columbus, Georgia with her late husband James Horne and only daughter, Rebecca. She also lived in Tennessee but she would find her way back to Anniston, Alabama where she raised her daughter, and cared for her parents until their deaths.

She was a beloved member of the staff at Golden Springs Nursing Home in Oxford, Alabama where she retired with awards and the love of patients and co-workers. After retirement, she married Walter Reynolds, who preceded her in death. She had a love for fishing and an amazing green thumb that would allow her to grow or revive most plants. In her later years, she moved to Atlanta to be close to her family, where she lived independently.

She is survived by her brother, Robert Ware of Buffalo, New York; daughter, Rebecca Stinchcomb; granddaughter, Evangel Wicks (Stephen); great granddaughters Jamila Davis-Salaam (Juma) and Zakiya Wicks; one great, great granddaughter, Ruqayyah Salaam.
