Obituary For Novella Sinkler

Mrs. Novella Hunt Sinkler, 93, of Shelby, NC entered eternal rest peacefully on Friday, January 7, 2022 at Peak Resources in Cherryville, NC. She was born on March 31, 1928 in Grover, NC to the late Willie M. Hunt.

Novella attended Camp High School and in her earlier years she said she had lived in 9 different houses. One day while walking on Carolina Avenue, she was approached by Manning “Stick” Sinkler and he asked her “Do you like chicken”. She replied “Yes.” He stuck his elbow out and said “Grab this wing.” They were married on July 21, 1946 and remained married for 74 years until his death on December 17, 2020.

Novella attended cosmetology school in Gastonia, NC and became a licensed beautician in 1962; a pioneer in the art of cosmetology in Shelby, NC. Novella was a devoted and faithful member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Shelby. She established the Young Adult Choir and loved every member over the many years. She will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Manning “Stick” Sinkler; her daughter, Mrs. Selena Grace Sinkler Rodgers and two sons, Manning “Stick” Sinkler, Jr. and Darrell Akers Sinkler.

Novella leaves to cherish fond memories to her son, Dennis Chico Sinkler (special friend, Angie Surratt); a sister, Claudette Williams; three granddaughters, Denise Kee of Austin, TX, Damara Nicole Sinkler of Charlotte, NC and Danielle L. Griffin (Adam) of Henderson, NV; six great-grandchildren, Taivion Taylor, Amias Griffin, Kaela Johnson, Miles Griffin, Eliana Griffin and Kyan Johnson and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A special thanks to her Goddaughters, Mrs. Mary Sue Degree and Mrs. Ella Fullenwider and best friend, Mrs. Leedesia Brooks.

The funeral service for Mrs. Sinkler is private. There will be a viewing from 8:30 AM until 10:30 AM on Monday, January 24, 2022 at S. T. Enloe Memorial Chapel. The service will be livestreamed starting at 12:45 PM from the Facebook page of Enloe Mortuary. Burial will take place for Mrs. Sinkler at Webb Memorial Lawns.

Mrs. Sinkler will be truly missed. She was such a blessing to everyone she came in contact with. I can remember when I was 14 or 15 yes old. Mrs. Sinkler used to pick me up weekly and take me to choir rehearsal. Rest on Angel
