To the Bell Family: please accept my deepest sympathy on the loss of your mother. Cleo and I went way back to the Riley Hill Community from the first grade, graduating together from Shepard High School. She went to Nursing school and I, to N.C. A&T. It was always a joy to see her when we both happened to be home at the same time, which was not often. I still remember our childhood mischiefs. You are in my prayers. Mary Hodge McLean, North Potomac, Maryland.

My sincere condolences go out to the family. I had the pleasure of working with Cleo at the VA. As an ER nurse she was one of my role models. She loved to laugh and would always do or say things to make us laugh. She was a caring, professional nurse who left her mark wherever she worked. She is a friend I will never forget. I pray that God will comfort and keep you all. Jacqueline "Jackie" Howell

This precious woman was always their for me as a mother when I was a young man exiting the military very confused as a young VA employee. She was so loving, understanding and nurturing. Words can not give justice to her ability of knowing exactly how to nurture, because she had such a great effect on me concerning my development. The Black woman was surely a gift to me and I will never forget her because she was a Goddess for me.

I worked with Cleo in the 70's at the VA Hospital in Durham on unit 4B. We shared many laughs and enjoyed working as a team. One of my most precious memories of her was when she was predicting when my baby would arrive. He arrived early so she was off a little and surprised that her prediction was not right. It still makes me smile. Alice Tharrington

To say I will miss Cleo doesn't even come close to what I wish I could say. She was such a great person. I met her through my dad, Henderson McCullers who was a veteran. Not once but EVERY time we stepped into the VA for his appointments, she was there with a smile and even laughing at my dad's corny jokes. She made each visit go so smoothly and for anyone else who was fortunate enough to have her assistance, you know I speak the truth. She will be missed and it was clearly evident that she knew why God put her here because she was simply so good at what she did. Sincerely,Harriette McCullers Brinkley
