Walter Harris

Walter Harris was born on November 1, 1944. On January 7, 2022, Walter peacefully passed away, when God called him home to rest from labor to his reward.

Walter grew up in High Springs, Florida where he attended public school in nearby Alachua County. He graduated from Mebane High School, class of 1963. Walter was baptized at an early age and attended the local church in High Springs, Florida. After graduating from high school, Walter served in the United States Army until 1965. After the Army, he returned back home to Alachua County. In 1967 he moved to Clearwater, Florida and attended Pinellas High Trade School and was trained in the cement masonry trade.

Walter loved working in the masonry industry and the experience he gained through his many years of masonry work eventually led him to start his own masonry business in 1984. He made a difference in many individuals life, as he was responsible for constructing residential building foundations for countless new built homes in Pinellas County. He retired in 2008 in construction and worked at the Long Center, AARP, and City of Clearwater. He gave generously of his time by delivering meals to those in need through the Meals on Wheels program.

Walter was a long-time faithful Deacon at Bethlehem M.B. Church, in Safety Harbor FL under the leadership of Pastor A. L. Coleman. He later joined Booth Street Baptist Church of Safety Harbor, Florida where he also served faithfully.

Walter enjoyed watching wrestling and his favorite sport, football. He had a gentle and affectionate personality everyone loved. He was always willing to help others. He had a way of making everyone laugh and smile.

Walter is preceded in death by: his mother, Doreatha Harris-Moore; step father Albert Moore Sr., wife, Deborah Jean Harvey-Harris; his son, Terry Lenard Harris; brothers, Raymond Kelly Harris and Charles Edward Harris; sister, Mary Deloris Thompson; unity son Monte Harvey.

His memories will live on in the hearts of his daughter LaChone Necole Dock (James) of Lithia, Florida, siblings Patricia Ann Lewis (Stanley) of Clearwater, Florida and Ricky Harris (Annette) of Tampa, Florida, thirteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, unity children, Felicia Regina Cheatham, Michael Harvey, and MeShonda Wilson, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 15th at 2:00 pm. The wake will be held on Friday, January 14th at 6 – 8 pm. Both will be held at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 2751 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater, FL 33759. Entrusted Care To Smith-Young FH & CS
