Obituary For Linda Hooker

Linda Heckstall Hooker, 71 of Shelby, NC departed this life on Thursday, January 13, 2022. She was born June 7, 1950, to the late Clinton L. and Margaret M. Heckstall in Newport News, Virginia. She attended Newport News Public School system and was a 1972 graduate of Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Virginia. Linda worked at Eugenia H Young Memorial Library (previously known as Cleveland County Memorial Library for 36 years as an Outreach Librarian. Linda was a faithful member of Shiloh Baptist Church. She served on the Mass Choir, Hospitality Committee, Women’s Auxiliary, Sarah Black Missionary Group, Educational Committee, Voter Registration Committee, and was the Assistant Vacation Bible School Teacher. She was also a member of the Cleveland County Branch of the NAACP. Linda was a member of Todays Ebonite’s Woman Club and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Charter Member of the Omega Sigma Omega Chapter. Linda was an avid reader, loved flower gardening, and adult coloring. She loved her family, but most of all, she loved GOD. Her motto was “ALWAYS GO WITH GOD”. She leaves to cherish her memories, husband of 49 years Richard Hooker Jr. of the home; daughter Takiyah (Chris) Burgess of Shelby, NC; son Richard Jabari (Anita) of Winston-Salem, NC; grandchildren, Brittney, Jaylen, Jeremiah, and Anaria; siblings, Clinton (Sharon) Heckstall, Flora Heckstall, Dorothy (Alexander) Redcross, Margaret (Samuel) Green, Lonnie (Deborah) Heckstall, Eddie Heckstall, Ellen Heckstall, Ellena (William) Heckstall all of Newport News, VA; Shirlene (Michael) Cheatom of Meridianville, AL, David (Regan) Heckstall and Joyce (Roderick) Heckstall-Farthing both of Newport News VA, along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. A funeral service for Linda will be held on Thursday, January 20, 2022, at 1:00 pm at Shiloh Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed via Enloe Mortuary's Facebook page starting at 12:45 PM.
