In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Shirley P. Gravely; two sisters, Doretha Gravely Stultz and Katherine Gravely Hairston: and one brothers, Raymond Gravely.
Richard was a member of Mt. Olive United Holy Church. He was a graduate of George Washington Carver High School. Richard retired from American Furniture Company and from Goodwill Industries.
Those left to cherish his memory include: his wife, Shirley P. Gravely of the home; two daughters, Arnessa A. (Michael) Strange and Deborah D. Gravely both of Axton, VA; one son, Richard A. Gravely, Jr; two granddaughters, Tasha and Theresa Strange both of Axton, VA; two great-grandchildren, DyKauirs Witcher and Sayria Dickerson; one sister, Annie Gravely of Martinsville, VA; three brothers, Sherman Gravely Harry Gravely, and John Gravely all of Martinsville, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 30, 2022, at 2 p.m. at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home with Reverend James Morrison, Eulogist. Burial will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. During this time, the family will be receiving friends. In accordance with the CDC, a face covering, and social distancing is required.
