My most sincere condolences to Kim and Van. I worked with Mary at the DTC of JSRCC for many, many years. Over the years, she served as an inspiration, an encourager, a friend. Her commitment to the welfare of the students was admirable. With her "no nonsense" attitude , she was able to counsel, encourage and mentor both students and colleagues. Marian Macbeth

Although I have not seen members of the family since I retired from the Richmond Public Schools in 1988, I have vivid memories of Mary when she arrived in Richmond bringing with her the commitment and determination to do what was in the best interest of those with whom we worked, mentored or taught. To the family, may your fond memories of her soothe, sustain and support you during this difficult time. Lois Harrison-Jones Fears

Mary and I worked together at J Sarge from the early 70's until her retirement in 1999. She was a wonderful colleague, mentor and friend and she actually saved my life. One day, a young man in my English class followed me into my office , closed the door and held me at knife point. Mary passed by and noticed my door was closed which was unusual. She hovered a minute, sensing something wrong, and opened the door. The young man was delusional and threatening but she calmly began to talk him down and eventually got him help. Her courage and compassion saved my life and I never forgot it. May flights of angels speed you to your rest, dear Mary. With profound gratitude for a life well lived, Win Loria
