Tommy Smith

Passed 01/21/2022

Eddie Thomas “Tommy” Smith, Sr., 76, passed away Friday, January 21, 2022, in Decatur, Texas.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, January 30th, from 10 am- 4pm at the Community Center in Forestburg. Due to COVID, we would like to offer people the opportunity to come and go as they feel most comfortable.

He was born on September 21, 1945, in Henrietta, Texas, to Thomas Henry Smith and Nelline Rebecca McCandless. Tommy is survived by his wife of 42 years Robin Ann Smith; children Patti Shockey (Scott), Terry Allen (Tina), Christi Smith (Bryan), Doug Allen (Mary), Amy Martin (Shane), Eddie Thomas Smith Jr. (Jamie), and Heather Fox (Chris); grandchildren Seth, Daniel, Jacob, Nate, Kristoffer, Ryan, Skyler, Calvin, Antonio, Rowdy, Jarred, Maddison, Sarah, Bailey, Hattie, Amy, and Isabella; great granddaughter Bralynn; sister Rebecca Loera; and close nephew Benjamin Jones. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Cecil Howard Jones, and his daughter Misty Shepherd.

As a young boy, Tommy grew up farming with his grandparents just south of Forestburg on the prairie. He was an accomplished athlete in high school. After graduation, he held several jobs, including his 7 years of service in the Texas National Guard. He had a 60-year career as a truck driver hauling produce and livestock. In his younger years, Tommy played the guitar and was a great dancer. He was a practical joker and had an infectious laugh. His larger-than-life personality and his gift of gab ensured he never met a stranger.

Tommy met his match when he met Robin—she shared his passions of hunting, fishing, camping, skiing, and country living. After his retirement, Tommy enjoyed farming and raising livestock with his wife Robin, son Tom, daughter-in-law Jamie, daughter Misty, and grandchildren Nate, Calvin, Antonio, and Isabella. His bold personality and practical jokes will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

We would like to thank the healthcare workers and staff at Wise County Regional Health System for making his final days comfortable and extending grace to his family members.
