Cynthia was the daughter of the late Mr. Maso and Mrs. Willie Mae Thompson Russell. Cynthia was a member of the graduating class of 1981 at South Point High School in Belmont, North Carolina. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina. While attending North Carolina Central, Cynthia was active in the Ladies of Black & Gold social organization. She pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. through the Alpha Chi Chapter in 1984, while at the university. She joined the Zeta Mu Omega graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc, while living in Belmont, North Carolina.
Cynthia was employed by the Gaston County School System for 28 years serving students at Carr Elementary School in Dallas, North Carolina. Cynthia furthered her education by earning her Master’s Degree in Education in 1997 from Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, North Carolina.
Cynthia accepted Christ at an early age as a member of Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Belmont, North Carolina. During numerous years at the church, she was active in the Youth Choir, Youth Missionary Groups, Sunday School, and the Rap Session program. Later Cynthia was active as an Adult Missionary, and a Director in the Summer Bible School department.
She leaves her two daughters Maya and India Sadler of Belmont, North Carolina to cherish memories of her life. Cynthia is survived by her brother, Richard Russell of Greensboro, North Carolina. She leaves her Aunt Carolyn Moore of Bristol, Connecticut, her uncle and aunt, Johnny Ed and Ernestine Thompson of Charlotte, North Carolina. Cynthia will also be remembered by her daughter’s father, Victor Sadler of Belmont, North Carolina as well as a host of cousins, classmates, and friends.
