His service to humanity straddles two countries on the continents of North and South America. In Guyana, South America he was best known as a trade unionist who served as General Secretary to the Guyana Mine Workers Union. He also served as Personnel Manager at the Guyana Rice Board and Industrial Relations Manager at the Guyana State Corporation (GUYSTAC). After migrating to the United States of America, he served in the highest levels of the security department at the World Bank.
Philbert relished most in his service to his church and the kingdom of God. His zeal, passion, and commitment to his faith were evident in the way he used his leadership gifts to serve in various capacities, which led him to receive the honor of Lay Leader Emeritus at his home church, The Emory Fellowship, Washington, D.C.
Philbert is survived by his wife, Audrey, to whom he was married for thirty-five years his children Seivewright (Hilary), Cheryl (Lance), Sharon, Sherwyn (Melanie), Junior (Vanessa), Mackela (Monica), and Kirk (Adrienne). Philbert is also survived by grandchildren, Raymond Nicholas, Kaslyn, Akins, Asim, Janee, Seanette, Maya, William, Sherwyn Michael, Vasche, Demetrius, Jalani, Nakeila, Emanuel, Kirk, Jr., Lily, Major, great-grandchildren, Kira, Darnell, Daniel, and Kayle, niece, Paulette (Michael) and other nieces and nephews. Philbert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Muriel Benjamin, brothers, Egbert, Frederick, Ulric, and sister, Yvonne, and surrogate brothers and sisters of the Greene family.
Philbert will be remembered for his endearing smile, integrity, commitment, and fearlessness. His life has left an indelible legacy of kindness, faithfulness, and graciousness, for all who made his acquaintance. His example of spiritual conviction and faith will always inspire us and his good character will be forever imprinted in our hearts and memory. May his soul rest in peace.
