LAURA (STRAND) JEFFRIES, 87, departed this earthly life into eternal life on Sunday, January 16, 2022 at UPMC Osteopathic Hospital in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. She was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, the second child born to the union of the late Harry Strand and the late Bessie Willoughby Strand Frank. Laura was also the second granddaughter of the late Reverend Louis Willoughby, who was the pastor of Beulah Baptist Church in Steelton, Pennsylvania. Having accepted the Lord as her personal Savior, she was a long time member of Beulah, where in her younger years; she attended Sunday School and sang on its Young People’s Choir. Laura received her formal education in the Harrisburg School District and graduated with the Class of 1953 from the former William Penn High School. After graduation, she became an employee of the Harrisburg Hospital as a nurse’s aide where she remained for over 20 years. Then for thrity-five years, she was employed by the Polyclinic Hospital, where she served in its Manor of Life which was reflective of her being a caring and loving person. Her last employment was with Costco where she worked for two and a-half years. Laura, affectionately known as “LJ”, was a very social person who loved to laugh, dance and was quite a good cook. She was married for sixty-two years to the late Junius A. “Jeff” Jeffries and their union was blessed with the birth of four sons. She leaves to celebrate her life and to cherish precious memories, her four sons, Floyd Jeffries of Coraopolis, Pennsylvania; Keith Jeffries of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; Robert Jeffries of Enola, Pennsylvania and Dale Jeffries of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Her sons as survivors are joined in grief by her two surviving sisters: Mary Frances Hood of Willingboro, New Jersey and Patty Ann Williams of Richmond, Virginia; her nieces: Janice Hayes of Richmond, Virginia; Karen James of Blue Bell, Pennsylvania and Quanda Hood of North Liberty, Iowa; her nephew, Troy Johnson of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; her caring and devoted caretaker, Angie Brown; as well as a host of other relatives and loving friends. A Celebration of Laura’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 in the Chapel of Major H. Winfield Funeral Home, Steelton, preceded by a viewing from 10:00 until 11:00 AM and burial in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Live Streaming of the service will be available on Major H.
